Tarantulas are large, hairy spiders belonging to the family Theraphosidae, found in various regions around the world, including the Americas, Africa, and Asia. Known for their formidable size, some species of tarantulas can have a leg span of up to 10 inches. These spiders are typically solitary and nocturnal, preferring to hide in burrows or under rocks during the day and hunting at night. Despite their intimidating appearance, tarantulas are generally not aggressive toward humans and will often retreat rather than attack. Some species, such as the Mexican red-knee tarantula, are even kept as pets due to their relatively docile nature. Their diet primarily consists of insects and small vertebrates, which they immobilize with venom and consume by liquefying their prey with digestive enzymes.
