Morpho peleides, commonly known as the Blue Morpho, is one of the most iconic and stunning butterflies in the Morpho genus. Native to the rainforests of Central and South America, particularly in countries like Brazil, Colombia, and Costa Rica, this butterfly is renowned for its large, iridescent blue wings, which shimmer with a striking, metallic hue. The blue coloration is created by microscopic scales on the wings that reflect light, making the butterfly appear almost glowing. The hindwings are brown with eye spots, adding to its distinctive appearance. They are typically found in lowland tropical forests, where it feeds on the leaves of plants in the Leguminosae family. The Blue Morpho is known for its erratic flight patterns, often seen fluttering through the forest at low altitudes.
