Morpho achilles, commonly known as the Achilles Morpho, is a butterfly species from the Morpho genus, known for its vibrant blue wings. Native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, especially in countries like Brazil and Costa Rica, this butterfly is easily recognizable due to its large size and iridescent blue forewings, which are edged with dark borders. The hindwings are brown with orange spots, creating a beautiful contrast. Morpho achilles is often seen in lowland forests, where it flutters gracefully in search of nectar. The butterfly’s brilliant color comes from the microscopic scales on its wings that reflect light, giving it a shimmering appearance.
